Our hike December 16, sunny winter day. We decided to head to Acquaviva through the woods via Frazione Campo Soci. Most of what we hiked yesterday was very familiar to us, but there was some forest roads that were new as we approached Acquaviva. Definitely not the time to hike forest roads and we are giving up on them until either they are frozen solid or it is warmer, drier weather. The mud was unbelievable! And here in Abruzzo, mud is like glue. It accumulates on the bottom and sides of your boots until you are walking on 5 inches / 12 cm of muck! Also the trail near the river was extremely overgrown, but it got us to our destination. Met lovely folks along the way at the different fraziones we passed through and stopped for some sausage at our friends’ home. We eventually headed home on the hard surface road. 8 miles / 12.8 km with altitude gain of 2023 ft/ 616 mt. As always, beautiful views of the Majella and Montazzoli.

La nostra escursione il 16 dicembre, soleggiata giornata invernale. Abbiamo deciso di dirigerci ad Acquaviva attraverso il bosco passando per Frazione Campo Soci. La maggior parte di ciò che abbiamo camminato ieri ci era molto familiare, ma c’erano alcune strade forestali che erano nuove mentre ci avvicinavamo ad Acquaviva. Sicuramente non è il momento di percorrere strade forestali e ci arrendiamo fino a quando non saranno ghiacciate o non farà un clima più caldo e secco. Il fango era incredibile! E qui in Abruzzo il fango è come la colla. Si accumula sul fondo e sui lati degli stivali finché non cammini su 12 cm di letame! Anche il sentiero vicino al fiume era estremamente invaso dalla vegetazione, ma ci ha portato a destinazione. Ho incontrato persone adorabili lungo la strada nelle diverse frazioni che abbiamo attraversato e ci siamo fermati per un po ‘di salsiccia a casa dei nostri amici. Alla fine ci siamo diretti a casa sulla strada di superficie dura. 8 miglia / 12,8 km con dislivello di 2023 ft / 616 mt. Come sempre splendidi scorci sulla Majella e su Montazzoli.
